Is it too much to ask that we act reasonably?
No.
It’s the only way to act if we expect to live in a sound society.
Look at us now. Take a minute to think about how many unreasonable things are affecting our lives.
If you’re a Democrat, Republicans are evil! If you’re a Republican, Democrats are evil! If you’re a Fox News fan, CNN is fake news and vice versa! If we don’t agree, we should be cancelled! You only care about me if you wear a mask!
This is not reasonable. Reason examines the issues. Reason exists somewhere within the extremes.
Merriam-Webster defines Reasonable as “not extreme or excessive”. Oxford Languages defines it as “having sound judgment; fair and sensible” and “able to think, understand, or form judgments by a logical process”.
We should strive to find common ground. We need to be considerate. We have to use a logical process to consider the other side, the opposing opinion, or the competing thought. This is the only way to live in harmony.
It is certainly reasonable to be Reasonable.
